Rating: 5 Skulls (see my Rating System, to the right) this one is a Must Own!
I woke up this morning to a brisk 64 degrees. (for those unaware, the family and I are currently in Wisconsin) Being from Florida, I am welcoming the change in weather!
What better way to start off the day of Metallica's 9th Studio Release?!? :-)
In my opinion, Metallica is the Best Band EVER!!! It is hard to believe that they have been around for 25 years now!!

I have been looking forward to this new album for months now, and I must say that it is well worth the wait!!! (though I was a little disappointed that Best Buy was not carrying the Limited Edition Coffin-Box Set, which had extra stuff, such as another CD with Demos, a Making-of the Album DVD, a Poster, T-Shirt, etc.) Oh Well, after having listened to the album, I am still content!
The Four Horsemen have gone back to their roots with this release - It is Fast, Hard, and Heavy!!! My Favorite Metallica Album, so far, has always been Master of Puppets - after listening to Death Magnetic, there is a possibilty that this may change. . . time will tell. . . I am one of those who lets the music float around in my head for a while - what is my favorite song today, may not be my favorite song a month from now.
Having already heard a couple of the songs from the album already (The Day That Never Comes, Cyanide, and My Apocalypse) I can tell you that Cyanide was my favorite. Now, after having listened to the complete album, I think that my favorite song, as of this posting, is going to be Broken, Beat, and Scarred - listening to it for the first time, I found myself shouting along ~ Show Your Scars. . . ROCK ON!!! :-)
I think that the deepest song, lyric wise, is probably The Judas Kiss (again, I've only listened to the album once)
I was also thrilled to hear a 10 minute Instrumental - Suicide & Redemption - just like back in the good 'ole days! :-)

Speaking of Bill, listening to this album brought back memories of when he and I, along with group of friends, used to play the role-playing game Vampire: The Masquerade into the wee hours of the morning, with Metallica blaring in the background! Good Times!!! :-)

Awesome review, bud. I whole-heartedly agree, although my favorite on the album is still My Apocalypse.
Also, thanks for the advertising. :)
Of course I remember playing Vampire with our favorite band playing in the background!
Hey, you beat me to the punch, and I dug your song-by-song reviews! :-)

Great review for a great album. Finally, Metallica has made a fantastic album. They seem to have lost some of their magic after The Black Album [was not digging St. Anger]. But Death Magnetic is awesome. I think My Apocalypse is my favorite song from it at the moment.
Right on Fred!
Bob Rock who?!?
Welcome Rick Rubin!!!
